Circuit spark extinction is achieved by piston created pressure in a gas, possibly sulphur hexafluorine. Two extinction chambers are driven by pistons operated from a single rod element operating offset cams carrying the two piston rods, such that the two chambers and connecting rods are in line, the two chambers being pressurised simultaneously, i.e. not in antiphase. The contact breakers themselves are situated at the extreme ends of the chambers and have the moving contacts associated with the piston driving rod. The piston of each chamber is connected to the cylinder of the second chamber by a link.
|
