Signal values are collected from the controls and applied to a decoder which operates close enough to a specified relation between various parameters. A maximum discharge value is set on this decoder, which can deliver a signal for blackening admissibility of the set adjustment. Control for kV and mAs are logarithmically calibrated, while pickups for these controls deliver linear signal values, e.g., voltages, so that their value difference gives a direct measure for the expected discharge, thus being directly comparable with the maximum permissible discharge value. It delivers a signal when this value is reached or exceeded.
