Riveted mechanical joint - uses metal rivets with hollow shanks acting as centring devices and permanently secured together

The joint is for brittle flat parts, particularly connections in multi-stage switching units, and incorporates two hollow shanked rivets, each with a collar at one end, fitting one inside the other and expanded. The rivets are of metal, permanently secured together, and the outer periphery of each shank is dimensioned so as to centre it in the bore before the riveting operation. The outer periphery of the outer rivet shank remains unaltered during the radial expansion of the inner one.
