<p>The mechanism is particularly for handling files of documents etc. in and out of cabinets, having an oblong rectangular surface for loading compartments on the left or right hand sides. The plane of this surface is defined by the top horizontal run of an endless conveyor extending along it and powered by a reversible drive, guides running along the sides of it. A slide works in the guides, its movement being restricted to a lifting area below, and it is powered by a second reversible drive. It has retracting components extensible upwards to engage with the containers. Loading and unloading is controlled automatically by a unit with feelers acting in the lengthwise direction to detect the presence of a container and the slide, and which regulate the operation of a conveyor belt. The retracting components are only extended when the bulk of the container weight is not being taken by the conveyor, and when the slide is in a position offset from it in the lengthwise direction.</p> |
