1455884 Telescopic capsules LILLY INDUSTRIES Ltd 12 Feb 1974 [14 Feb 1973] 7141/73 Heading B8C Telescopic capsules, e.g. for pharmaceutical use are comprised of conventionally shaped body and cap portions, both of which are composed of two superposed layers of different materials which are soluble in aqueous media in different but overlapping pH ranges. Both portions are manufactured separately, e.g. by a conventional dipping progress wherein the body and cap pins are dipped successively in solutions of the two materials. Subsequent to manufacture of the separate body and cap portions, the capsules may be filled, closed and sealed by application of a circumferential band at the junction of cap and body e.g. of the same material as the outer layer of the capsule walls. Suitable materials for the first (inner) layer are; gelatin (preferred), calcium alynate, methyl cellulose and hydroxy cellulose-alkyl cellulose ethers. Suitable materials for the outer layer are; salol, benzoin, nbutyl stearate, carnuba wax, shellac, methacrylis acid polymers, carboxyvinyl polymers, maleic anhydride-vinyl alkyl ether or alkene copolymers and cellulose derrivates. For medicaments, these which are substantially insoluble below about pH 3À5 are preferred, these giving enteric capsules. |
