发明名称 ENHANCED READOUT OF STORED HOLOGRAMS
摘要 1412526 Holograms R C A CORPORATION 27 April 1973 [28 July 1972] 20016/73 Heading G2J [Also in Division G4] A hologram on recording medium 16, Fig. 1, is read out using both the object beam 38 and reference beam 17, one of which is modulated. As described the hologram is formed by splitting the beam from a laser 10 (deflected by deflector 12) so that the object beam is directed via one of a number of holograms in an array 14. The object beam passes via lens 26 to page composer 24 containing a number of storage locations equal to the number of light sources in each hologram. The page composer has an electronically controlled light shutter means so that the storage locations may be made relatively opaque and transparent. At the recording medium which is preferably photographic film (but may be photochromic, magnetic, low melting point glass or ferro-electric a hologram is formed by the interference of the object beam and the reference beam which is fed from the beam-splitter via lenses 19, 21, mirror 20 and modulator 50. Enhanced read out is obtained by having all the storage locations of the page composer transparent so that both the object beam and modulated reference beam are used. Modulation of the reference beam at a frequency f o results in a virtual image wave of intensity where k is a constant, n is the holographic efficiency, x = 2# fot and I R is the intensity of the reference wave. Filters 52 remove the constant terms and the term of frequency 2x. Amplitude modulation may be effected using a polarization rotator to produce a rotating linearly polarized wave, and a fixed polarizer. Alternatively intensity modulation may be effected using a mechanical shutter (70), Fig. 6 (not shown) in which case the intensity of the detected signal is of the form where p(t) is a Fourier series expansion of a squarewave. In this embodiment detector array 56 is followed by either high pass filters for detecting all the components of the enhanced signal or band pass filters hued to one component. Phase modulation may be obtained using a Piezo-electric crystal (76), Fig. 5 (not shown) oscillating in response to an electrical modulating signal and carrying a mirror (20). Alternatively a mirror may be secured to a magnetic bar located within a coil oscillated by an A.C. signal. Alternatively a transparent disk (80), Fig. 7 (not shown) of varying thickness may be rotated to vary the path length taken by the reference beam. The intensity of the detected signal is then Both beams may be modulated for example by using two disks of the same shape and rotating them at different speeds or two disks of different shapes, e.g. with two and four slots, rotated at the same speed.
