The domestic pop corn machine comprises a transparent hood or lid which is mounted on a lower container housing a heated pan having an inwardly inclined edge which causes the maize grains to slide down towards the base until they are ready to burst open, whereupon they fly up. A thermostatically controlled hot plate is mounted beneath the base of the pan and is protected at the bottom by a thermally insulated plate. The transparent hood allows easy control of the machine so that when sufficient popcorn has been produed the machine can be tipped up 180 deg. so that the popcorn falls into the lid which can then be used as a serving dish.
