Glass for protecting eyesight against ultra-violet - and infra-red radiation, contg. iron and selenium

In addn. to the normal constituents in a soda-lime-silica glass, the compsn. contains (by wt.) 0.2-4.0% Fe3O2, 0-0.9 % Na2SeO3, 0-0.05% Co2O3, 0-0.5% Ni2O3, NaCl and 0.2-5.0 % KNO3. The use of a higher amt. of NaCl produces a colour stabilising effect. Both blooming and changes in transparency due to solarisation are reduced, and glass of the same colour can be consistently reproduced.
