A liquid glue for solid lignocellulose materials (I) is prepd. by heating a mixt. of a (I), an acid capable of catalysing the hydrolysis of carbohydrates and a phenol, until the (I) is at least partly liquefied. Prod. is used as a hot-press adhesive in the same way as e.g. phenol-HCHO resins for mfr. of plywood, chipboard, fibreboard etc. Since the amt. of phenol required is low the cost is only 1/7-1/10 that of known adhesives. The (I) used for the glue may be wood, bark, leaves or conifer needles, the phenol is esp. derived from wood e.g. phenol, cresol, xylenol, resorcinol or catechol, the acid is H2SO4, HCl H3PO4 or acetic acid. |
