The device comprises embossed or plane mould plates la, 1b which have holes or channels to vent the voids formed in the expanded blank. The plates can be heated electrically, and cooled by air circulation, or a fluid circulated through platens 3a, 3b. The plates can be supported on, and moved apart by, endless belts.
