1422433 Disproportionating toluene TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 5 Sept 1973 [11 Sept 1972] 41717/73 Heading C5E Toluene is disproportionated to give benzene and xylenes by contact, in the presence of a sulphide compound, with a catalyst comprising (a) a mordenite-derived hydrogen aluminosilicate having a SiO 2 Al 2 O 3 mole ratio of greater than 10 : 1 and (b) a sulphided Group VIII metal, e.g. Co or Ni. Suitable sulphide compounds present during the disproportionation are mercaptans, methyldisulphide or H 2 S. The catalyst may also comprise alumina and H 2 may be present. |
