The platform is extensible by means of telescoping mast sections, one of which forms the frame tube, while the other carries the platform itself. Each intermediate mast section (2, 3) has an endless rope or chain (12, 13) extending for its range of extension. Each run (18 - 21) of rope or chain is coupled to the adjacent mast section so that they move in the same direction. The section acting as the frame tube (1) is coupled to the adjacent section (2) by one or more rams (8, 9). There can be one retraction ram coaxial to the mast sections, or two on opposite sides.
