Stabilised air brake flap for aircraft - with control valve to set flap angle for servo pressure

The aerodynamic brake flap is operated by a pneumatic/hydraulic piston. The piston is set so that the amount of flap is proportional to the extension of the piston. The supply line to the piston is fitted with a flow restriction behind which is set a control valve in a bypass line, with the valve operated by a mechanical linkage to the flap. The system is designed to set a certain amount of flap for a set servo pressure. This enables the brake flap to be accurately set simply by the pilot turning a pressure selector switch. The system is especially suited for combat planes where the pilot's attention is required elsewhere.
