The manicure utensil comprises an elongate body (1) ending at one end in a nail-cleaning point with a slightly rounded tip (4) whilst over practically the entire length of the top of the body there is a trough (7) of roughly a semi-circular cross-section which corresponds substantially the desired finished shape of the leading fingernail edges. The upper face of this trough is made from or coated with a filing surface and the cross-section of the trough can vary over its length so that nails of different width can be treated. The other end of the manicure utensil can be flat or slightly curved with an arcuate edge for use in treating the cuticles.
