The rubber or plastics shoe sole is provided on the side facing the foot with recesses which are filled with a highly absorbent material such as fibre mixtures or the like which whilst the shoe is being worn absorbs the moisture which is the slowly released later after the shoes have been removed. The recesses or cavities are covered on the tope by an insole which is water-permeable but which need not be as rigid as the known insoles since it is supported over the entire surface of the sole, including the recesses. A two - component dry adhesive is pref. incorporated in the filler to provide the necessary strength and improve the uniform pressure distribution. The adhesive can also be used to join the insole to the main sole. The insole and filler can be placed in a mould into which polyurethane is then injected wherein the filler is pref. cemented in parts to the insole before the mould is closed.
