<p>Beta-1 zeolite of compsn. 0.2-0.7 Na2O, 0.03-0.9 Q2O, Al2O3, 10-150 SiO2, 0-30 H2O (where Q is a phosphorium or ammonium radical of formula: R1.R2.R3.R4N or R1.R2.R3.R4.P where R1 is 1-20C alkyl, phenyl, benzyl, alkyl phenyl or alkyl benzyl, and R2, R3 and R4, are 1-20C alkyl). The crystals form in a unitary tetragonal cell in which Ao is 22.3 A degree and Co is 42.4 A degree, giving a molecular sieve with orifices =6.0 A degree. The molecular sieve will absorb p-xylene but not m-xylene or o-xylene while it absorbs ethyl benzene marginally, (cf. ZSM5, 6.2 A degree). The structure will absorb n-paraffins more readily than other zeolites having an absorption ratio for n-hexane/H2O of 2.</p> |
