Sampler for use with a liquid medium flowing in a channel is operated periodically by filling and discharging. It consists of a rotatable container pivoted on an axis so that it can be inserted or withdrawn from the liq. and having a central through passage of smaller dia. than the channel. Around this is a circumferential slot through which the sample passes and fills the container, which is subsequently emptied by tipping it up. The whole is contained in a 'T' shaped unit mounted between two flanges in the channel. Used esp. for periodic sampling of the concentrate from a flotation process, required to check the process operation. As this contains a significant solids contact, it is essential to have a representative sample, which skimming some from the surface or drawing some from a sample point on the base of the channel does not give. The device mixes the stream and draws off a truly representative sample. As it is only inserted when required, blocking is not a problem.
