The housing of the pile driver has a hollow chamber which is connected by at least one opening with the surrounding area. A connection channel at the top end of the hollow chamber leads to the chamber in which the impact anvil is located. This channel incorporates a float valve. The housing has an overflow channel in the inner wall which encloses the movement chamber. This channel communicates with the upper and lower ends of the chamber of movement. The inner wall of the housing is formed as a double wall. The aforementioned connection channel in addition contains a shut-off valve which is closed during at least the last part of the upwards movement of the impact anvil.
