<p>1435991 Machinery guards WOLF MACHINE CO 25 April 1973 [20 Sept 1972] 19769/73 Heading F2J A guard assembly 32 for the motor-driven rotary knife blade 11 of a portable cloth-cutting machine comprises a fixed rear section 33 on which is pivotally mounted a front section 38, the rear and front sections 33, 38 completely covering the exposed rear and front peripheral segments respectively of the blade 11. An adjustable trigger mechanism 58 adjacent the operator's handle grip 22 is connected via a link 59 to the front guard section 38 whereby the operator may turn, i.e. open and retract the front guard 38 (Fig. 3) to expose the blade 11 sufficiently to cut a cloth stack 15 of multiple fabric layers, the guard 38 being spring and weight biased to automatically return to a closed position, i.e. failsafe, when the machine is removed from the cloth stack 15. A blade sharpener device 26 pivotally mounted at 29 on the machine centre standard 19 is positioned such that the sharpener device 26 can only be engaged to sharpen the blade 11 through a cutaway portion 46 in the front guard 38 (Fig. 4) when the front guard 38 is in its fully closed position, an auxiliary guard 37 on the sharpener device 26 serving to cover the cut-away portion 46 (Fig. 2). The front guard 38 includes a pointer 48 aligned with the cutting blade 11 such that the operator can readily follow a traced pattern on the top of the cloth stack 15. The rear guard 33, pivotally carrying the front guard 38, is readily removable, as a unit, at (34) (Fig. 1, not shown) to facilitate changing of the circular blade 11 when required.</p> |
