1436171 Assembling valves into cylinder heads REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT and AUTOMOBILES PEUGEOT 26 June 1973 [25 July 1972] 30366/73 Heading B3A A method of assembling at least one valve having a head portion and a stem portion in a cylinder head comprises locating the end of the or each stem portion in alignment with one end of a responsive bore in the cylinder head and applying suction to the other end of the or each bore to suck the or each valve into its respective guide. In an example, Fig. 1, a cylinder head 1 is provided with valve guides 2 connected to a vacuum line 3. The valves are supported on a plate 5 formed with recesses 5a for the valve heads, the recesses being in register with the ends of the guides. A vacuum is applied to the line 3 and the valve stems are centered automatically and the valve heads engage the valve seats 6. In another example, Fig. 2, the valves 4 are held by retaining members 7, 8 which are pivoted about a hinge pin 9 and assist in the alignment of the valves. They are easily removed after assembling the valves. |
