<p>Machine-readable documents are coded with strips of magnetic ink bars, the interval between bars corresponding to either 0 to 1. The strip is magnetically saturated and then read by the double head (11) which has gaps (14, 15) in its magnetic circuits. The distance between the gaps is equal to the interval between ink bars equivalent to bit 1. When signals coincide in coils of the head a bit 1 is read. When signals occur in only one coil, a bit 0 is read.</p> |
