Double wire twisting spindle braking and positioning device includes a driven member displaceable into frictional or desmodromic contact with the spindle, the member being driven by an electric brake motor through the intermediary of a redn. gear for a predetermined period after which the motor is stopped by a signal derived from the spindle. Spindle is arrested quickly and silently in a war reducing manner at a predetermined posn. Device replaces arresting pawls which induce wear in bearings due to shock and air turbines which take a long time to stop and start the spindles besides generating an unpleasant noise level.
