A safety belt device for the used of passengers travelling in a motorised vehicle with a mounting or pivoting fitting at about shoulder height mounted onto the framework of the vehicle itself, has a vertically mounted box shaped body housing (1) attached to the framework section of the vehicle to which is mounted the attachment or pivoting fitting (8, 9). A take up aperture (3) with a series of take up slots (3a) at various levels is used to connect up to an arrestor bolt (2) coupled to the attachment or pivoting fitting which is inserted into it.
