The pattern maker comprises a rigid plastics measuring strip (2) with two measuring rods (3, 4) fastened to it so that the height of the side seam, crutch, knee joint as well as the perimeter of the leg at the knee and of the thigh at the crutch as well as the hips and height of the hips can be measured in succession. These measurements are subsequently transferred to the pattern paper or directly to the trouser material itself so that trousers tailored exactly to the correct all round measurements can be made even by the unskilled seamstress.
