Activated sludge aeration - in sewage treatment by inflated rubber hoses with automatic, closing slits at tank bottom

An aeration system for activated sludge sewage treatment includes a network of pipes which extend over the whole bottom area of the settling basin. The periphery of the pipes carries air exist slots in uniform distance which can be closed and opened to distribute air bubbles across the area. This is a very simple arrangement to achieve a uniform distribution of the aeration medium in fine bubbles across the whole basin. The slots can be shut automatically when then supply of compressed air ceases so that the aeration system cannot become clogged.
