1443214 Filter FILTER SPECIALISTS Inc 7 Nov 1973 [22 Jan 1973] 51618/73 Heading BID A liquid filter comprises a housing with inlet and outlet ports 70, 72 enclosing a reticulate basket 80 supporting a filter bag 34, the upper edge of the bag being clamped between the rim of the basket and the housing cover 98 except where the cover is extended at 110 to provide part of a passage between port 70 and the bag interior. As shown basket 80 is welded to a ring 82 which seats on inclined flange 78 of the housing and provides a wall 84 adjacent port 70. In Figs. 1, 2 (not shown) wall 84 is replaced by an integral inner wall of the housing, and the outlet port (20) is in the housing floor. Cover extension 110 is divided by spaced ribs 114 which engage the bag edge (Fig. 2A, not shown). The bag may be of felt and comprises several plies which may be sewn together along vertical lines, one ply being extended to enclose a metal ring 38 (Figs. 4, 4A, not shown). The outward flow bag illustrated has plies whose porosity decreases outwards, but the flow direction could be reversed, in which case the bag plies decrease in porosity inwards and the bag is supported outside the basket. The cover may be hinged to the housing or secured by wing nuts (Fig. 1).
