The automatic handling mechanism for hollow objects has a handling arrangement whose drive is actuated by monitoring devices for ensuring the presence of workpieces. The arrangement has a pressure exerting cylinder coupled to a number of printing pattern cylinders. The latter are coupled by their gear wheels with a motor driven master gear wheel provided with permanent type brakes ensuring play free engagement. The first coupling type brake half (14) is connected with the gear (8) of the printing pattern cylinder. The second half (15) is connected to the machine frame (23) and coupled to a drive (25) which drives the second half in a direction opposite to that of the half connected to the gear wheel.
