A nuclear reactor pressure vessel with welded internal liner and a liner space capable of being evacuated and esp. with the liner not anchored back to the vessel, has the liner supported by an internal structure constituted of open-sided steel sections, pref. I-sections or T-sections. Insulating elements are locked into the hollow sides of the steel sections. In the prefd. embodiment, vertical steel I - or T - sections are used, with insulating elements slotted into their sides. Used for a vessel built up from cast steel or cast iron elements, where the liner cavity must be capable of being evacuated to below atmospheric pressure. The liner is of simple welded construction, yet fully supported. The insulation can be removed panel-by-panel for liner inspection. The steel structure can be statically determinate.
|
