1445925 Perfluoro-compound emulsions GREEN CROSS CORP 5 Feb 1974 [5 Oct 1973] 05249/74 Heading B1V [Also in Division A5] A stable emulsion, in a physiologically acceptable aqueous medium, of a saturated non- aromatic perfluoro-substituted organic compound having from 9 to 11 carbon atoms, at least one alicyclic ring, heterocyclic ring, nitrogen atom or oxygen atom, a boiling point of from 140‹C to 160‹C inclusive, a particle size of from 0.05 to 0.3Á inclusive, and being capable of carrying at least 30% V/V oxygen, comprises said perfluorocarbon compound, a phospholipid as an emulsifier, and, as an emulsifying adjuvant, at least one fatty acid compound having from 8 to 22 carbon atoms inclusive, or a physiologically acceptable salt or monoglyceride thereof. Preferred fluorocompounds are perfluorocycloalkanes, perfluoro (alkylcycloalkanes), perfluoro (alkyl-saturated-heterocyclic) compounds, or perfluoro (tertiary amines). Many examples of each type are given. The emulsion may be produced in a conventional emulsifier. It is suitable for use as a blood substitute in mammals.
