The coil winder for toroidal coils of very thin wire is wrapped with insulated winding strips supplied from a feed with a mechanism gripping around the toroidal core. The latter is mounted between circular slots in a roller system consisting of drive and guide rollers. Some of the guide rollers can be moved outwards by the tension of the toroidal coil, due to the action of a spring. The tension of the toroidal coil is initially set at a relatively high value to produce a relatively high friction during the winding process, keeping the bearing of the supply coil upright. The friction produced by the pull of the winding strip on the toroidal coil is supplemented by an additional tensile force caused by the friction of a brake on the front face of the hub of the supply coil.
