[Also in Division C2] Pharmaceutical and veterinary compositions having hormonal activity, particularly progestational and anti-estrogenic activity with or without anti-androgenic activity, contain 9α- unsubstituted 11#-chloro-19-nor-steroids having the following structure in the D-ring where R<SP>1</SP> is -COCH 3 ; R<SP>2</SP> is H, OH or acyloxy; R<SP>3</SP> is OCH 3 ; or R<SP>2</SP>+R<SP>3</SP> is a carboncarbon bond or an epoxy or methylene group, or R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP> and the adjacent C atom form a 1'-pyrazolino-(4', 3':16α, 17α)- or 2'-pyrazolino-(4', 5':16α, 17α)-grouping; and R<SP>4</SP> is H or CH 3 but is not CH 3 when 16, 17-methylene or -pyrazolino is present, and, optionally, further compounds possessing hormonal activity, particularly estrogens. Oral tablets containing 17α-acetoxy-11#-chloro-16-methylene-19-nor-pregn-4-ene-3, 20-dione and ethynyl estradiol are among the specified compositions, which may be used inter alia, as contraceptives. |
