In a towable or self-propelling harvesting machine for the prodn. of animal feed from sugar cane or other plants and constructed with a cutting device, (a) two sloping rotatable guide tubes with spiral guide surfaces are provided at the front an dtwo sliding shoes are connected together in the sense of an indirect transfer of the unevenness of the ground via a movable part to a cutter disc by a hydraulic circuit, (b) a mechanised transport device is provided for the cut material, consisting of a number of rotatable transport rolls as well as a metering device composed of two rolls with suitable surfaces for uniformly metering the feed to (c) a chopping unit consisting of a chopping drum having helically mounted cutters on its periphery and a fixed counter cutter, with means for simultaneously discharging the chopped prod. from the rotatable chopping drum through a hopper. The system enables a harvester for sugar can eor other plants to process directly, and at high output rates and efficiency, to animal feed. |
