Centrifuge for recovery of light volatile liquids from mixtures with solids has the liquid outlets on the rotor directedly tangentially in the opposite direction to the station. The outlets are directed inwards towards the axis of rotation and downwards. They are directed into an annular covered collection channel. The airspace in this channel is kept relatively small and has only a small air throughput. For the recovery of volatile liquids and solvents esp. etherial oils and petrol solvents used for extracting vegetable materials. Conventional centrifuges induce a considerable air flows around the rotor or basket and the separated liquid becomes a series of fine droplets in this air before coalescing on the outer wall. With volatile liquids, this results in a major loss due to evaporation into the liq. stream. This centrifuge avoids this.
