<p>Contact piece for vacuum switches, consisting of a mechanically strong, electrically and thermally conducting and dense block of W or Mo, which is resistant to loss by burning, having openings in its operating surface contg. a non-liquid filler with a lower arcing potential than the block, uses intermetallic cpds. contg. min. 45% Sb and having a m.pt. of 425-1225 degrees C as filler. The resistance of the substrate to loss by burning is retained and there is no weakening of the filler or rise in the contact-breaking current. The filler cannot flow from grooves, so that renewed contact and break failures are avoided. The switch piece has a good dielectric strength over the entire range from e.g. 660V to 11,000V and does not require impregnation with various materials depending on the voltage rating.</p> |
