Double-based propargol blocks for rockets, launching charges, etc. comprising nitrocellulose, explosive oils, gelling agents, combustion moderators, stabilisers, lubricants, (in)organic oxygenated bodies and additives are manufactured by first mixing in a malaxator at elevated temps. a portion of the explosive oils in the usual form of an explosive gelatine or a pre-hardened gelled intermediate product contg. some of the nitrocellulose required for the final block, wetted by alcohol, together with another portion of the requisite nitrocellulose wetted by appropriate organic displacement agents, having a concn. of 90% or more, and small amts. of true solvents for the nitrocellulose and the usual additives. The fluid granules produced from this mixt. are dried to a moisture content of 0.1-0.8% and malaxated to form batches of homogeneous granules of any wt. which are then converted into homogenised granules in known manner. Homogeneous mixing is achieved for all amts. of propergol prepd. The ratio between nitrocellulose and explosive oil can be varied. |
