1458638 Moist pet food: imitation meat RALSTON PURINA CO 17 Oct 1974 [18 Sept 1974] 45031/74 Heading A2B A pet food having a moisture content of at least 40% by wt. is made by mixing pasteurised, comin-touited meat, from 25-95% by vol. of expanded protein pieces and a bacteriostatic agent and an antimycotic agent, the resuiking pet food having a shear value of not less than 0.08 ft lb/gram. Specified bacteriostatic agents used in amounts of 0.5 to 3% by wt. are succinic acid, pyruvic acid, fumaric acid, adipic acid, glucono delta lactone, tartaric acid, lactic acid, citric acid, malic acid, calcium acetate or sodium hexametaplhosiphate. Specified antimycotic agents used in amounts of 0.15 to 0.3% by wt are sorbic acid or a salt thereof, propionic acid or a salt thereof, or benzoic acid or a salt thereof. Preferably part of the bacteriostatic agent is blended with the meat and the expanded protein separately prior to mixing the meat with the protein. |
