The seal is for use with a sliding or rotating shaft, having one or more elastic sealing rings bearing against the shaft and pressed against the housing by a sealing cap with a fixing flange. The flange possess a predetermined degree of elasticity in the radial direction, and has an internal head snapping into engagement with an external annular groove in the housing. In the inside surface of the axial flange (2) are one or more passages (7), by means of which the chamber accommodating the seal communicates with the atmosphere, forming a discharge valve. The passages also increase the elasticity of the flange in the radial direction, and form points by which the cap (1) can be gripped when dismantling.
