Finely divided material is sepd. from liq. by gravity using finely divided air allowed to come out of soln. by reducing its pressure. The gas is dissolved by directing a jet of liq. through the gas in the head space above the liq. while it is under pressure. Used to separate suspended particles of lighter material from liq. Esp. for removing oil from water. The air coming out of soln. is more finely divided than if it were injected through a distributor. The removal of oil is therefore more complete.
