1402503 Alkylation and transalkylation of aromatic hydrocarbons MOBIL OIL CORP 14 March 1973 [12 May 1972] 12261/73 Heading C5E Aromatic hydrocarbons are alkylated in the vapour phase with an alkylating agent, e.g. an olefin, in an alkylation reactor with an inlet temperature of 650-900‹ F., a reaction pressure of atmospheric to 3000 p.s.i.g., a mole ratio of aromatic hydrocarbon : alkylating agent of 1 : 1 to 20 : 1 and 2-2000 WHSV in the presence of a ZSM-5 type aluminosilicate zeolite (characterized by X-ray diffraction pattern), at least part of the effluent containing polyalkylaromatic compound being passed with an aromatic hydrocarbon charge to a separate transalkylation reactor under vapour phase conditions including an inlet temperature of 650-900‹ F., a reaction pressure of atmospheric to 3000 p.s.i.g., a mole ratio of aromatic hydrocarbon charge to polyalkylaromatic compounds of 1 : 1 to 16 : 1 and 10-1000 WHSV and containing the same type of catalyst. The catalyst may be combined with a binder, such as Al 2 O 3 . Examples describe the alkylation of benzene with ethylene. |
