1464943 Clutch release bearings; seals SOC NOUVELLE DE ROULEMENTS 5 April 1974 [15 May 1973 13 Dec 1973] 15297/74 Headings F2A F2L and F2B A self-centering clutch release thrust bearing assembly for a diaphragm spring clutch comprises a resilient centering sleeve 2 fast with the non-rotating race 6a of a ball bearing 6 and axially slidable on a guide tube 1. The sleeve 2 permits radial and angular misalignment between the bearing 6 and guide tube 1 when the bearing 6 centres itself on a clutch diaphragm spring 10. The sleeve 2 has an annular recess 3 which increases the flexibility of the sleeve and provides a lubricant reservoir. As shown the sleeve 2 is moulded on an axial sleeve 4a of an abutment plate 4 which is engaged by a shift fork 9. The abutment plate 4 is welded or otherwise secured to a bearing retaining casing 5. In Fig. 5 (not shown) the sleeve (2) is provided with an annular groove (2e) which receives a wear plate (15) positioned between the abutment plate (4) and shift fork. In Fig. 4 (not shown) the sleeve (2) is moulded on a radially inward extension (13a) of the bearing retaining casing (13). In Fig. 6 (not shown) the sleeve (2) is secured to the inner race (17a) of the bearing whilst the outer race acts through a ring (18) on the diaphragm spring. An abutment plate (20) is secured to the inner race. In Fig. 7 (not shown) the sleeve (2) is secured to an axial sleeve (20a) of the abutment plate (20), the sleeve (20a) fitting within the inner race (17a) of the bearing. In Figs. 8 and 9 (not shown) the resilient sleeve (21) is moulded on an abutment plate (22) and has its radially external surface formed to receive and retain the inner race (23a) of a ball bearing. In Fig. 9 the sleeve (21) is formed with a groove (21d) which retains a wear plate (15) against the abutment plate (22) and with a bearing sealing ring (21f). The sleeve 2 may be made by injection or compression moulding of an elastomer or plastics material. |
