<p>Brass is brazed in a protective atmos., where the work-pieces being joined are assembled, a hard solder is placed on the joint surfaces, and the assembly is heated in a chamber fed with a gas mixt. Prior to assembly, the joint surfaces are coated with a soln. of flux. The chamber consists of a box contg. graphite supports for the workpieces and is placed in a furnace. The furnace is pref. at 870 degrees C, before the box is inserted, the hard solder having m.pt. 710 degrees C, and consisting of 4 pts. powder contg. Ag, Cu, In, and 1 pt. flux powder. Used for brazing of brass parts or brass to Cu; or brass to Invar (RTM). The parts may have a simple or a complex shape, e.g. waveguides.</p> |
