The process comprises wetting the dust with a 0.2-5% (0.5-1%) aq. (alcoholic) soln. of a physiologically acceptable binder, in a vortex layer spray granulator, the material is then dried and agglomerated at low temp. The process is for e.g. black tea and herb teas, and has no effect on the flavour. The prods. are stable, abrasion-resistant agglomerates of size 0.5-0.8 mm. The binders are Irish moss mucilage, agar agar, tragal -canth, gum arabic, carob bean flour, guar flour, polyvinylpyrrolidone, (modified) starch or cellulose. The amt. is 200-500 ml (200-350 ml) binder soln/0.5 kg dust. The spray time is 20-50 minutes and the temp. of the air supply is 30-80 degrees C, pref. the temp. is 40 degrees C for the first 10-30 minutes, and 60-70 degrees C for the later stages. Drying is at an air supply temp. of 40-70 degrees C for 5-40 (5-20) minutes. Optimum results are at a pump speed of 10-20 revs./min and a spray pressure of 3 atmos. gauge. |
