The monitoring and control system is for the operation of road vehicles, especially tramway cars, and has sensors controlling the specific characteristic value of individual monitoring points in the vehicle. Any deviation releases an information flow which is passed to a magnetic tape (6). A spoken text assigned to the deviation from the controlled characteristic value is called up by comparison with stored codes. The information flow-passes from the sensors (1.1 to 1.n) to an information collector (3) and from there to a coder (4). The information is retained until a co-ordinator (5) locates the position of the magnetic tape (6) which is output as the spoken text. The co-ordinator (5) is controlled by the information collector (3).
