The apparatus is composed of a plurality of display units which are arranged alongside and/or below one another. Each display unit has an information carrier which exhibits characters and is arranged in a casing (2) which is provided with a viewing window (8). The characters situated on the information carrier are optionally brought behind the viewing window by means of a step-by-step mechanism which acts on a wheel (4). So that the characters can be made as large as possible relative to the casing, the information carrier which exhibits the characters is a belt (7). The belt is guided round the wheel and round two deflection rollers (10, 11) in the region of the viewing window. To permit the belt to travel, it and the wheel have teeth or perforations respectively. <IMAGE> |
