<p>The tailgate is operated under the rear of the lorry by two sets of parallel levers of which the bottom lever is in two sections hinged by a pivot joint. The section nearest the tailgate has an extension past the joint, with the free end of the extension coupled to the operating cable. When the gate is lowered to the ground the cable is released and the hinge opens to shorten the effective length of the bottom lever and allow the gate to slope as a loading ramp. When the cable is tensioned the joint closes and the gate is raised level. A stop plate stabilises the straight setting of the two sections. The cable is operated by an electric winch with a band brake to lock the cable when the motor is switched off.</p> |
