Magnetic ores are conc. by combining an external magnetic field with the magnetic field of the flowing ore and centrifugal force. The ore is fed in a carrier along a track with curved (a)- and straight (b)- sections; in sections (a), an adjustable alternating magnetic field (AAMF) is combined with centrifugal force, so heavy magnetic grains (e) move to the outside of the track and travel slowly and periodically in the carrier while light grains (q) flow rapidlly. In sections (b), an AAMF at 90 degrees To the ore flow periodically retards and brakes grains (e) without impairing the speed of grains (q). The pref. machine uses two sets (a,B), with an outlet for concentrate; an outlet for intermediate prods.; and a gangue outlet. A centrifugal magnetic separator for wet or dry concn. of strong- or weakly-magnetic oxide ores of Fe, Mn, or Cr-Fe, using dry ore flow speeds over 20 m/s or wet concn. speeds of e.g. 3.4 m/s. The rotational speed and magnetic field strength can be adjusted to ensure efficient sepn.
