<p>The choke is intended for short circuit limiting or for smoothing purposes. For this reason the coil has to withstand high mechanical and thermal loads. The coil is, therefore, wound from a stranded cable of rectangular, preferably quadratic, cross section. The cavities between the individual cable wires are filled with resin. Typically the stranded cable is made of wires of an aluminium-manganese-silicon alloy. Alternately pure aluminium may be used. The stranded cable has typically a glass fibre strip insulation with mica.</p> |
