Wire or profile ends to be welded are inserted into insert jaws (7) and welding clamp jaws (3, 4, 5, 6) of a left-hand, fixed (1) and a right-hand, movable (2) welding clamp device and are clamped in place. After the welding, the welding clamp-jaw pair (3, 4) of the movable welding clamp device is slackened and is displaced towards the still hot welding burr in order to remove the latter by means of the insert jaws (7) of blade-like design. This method can be used in resistance pressure butt welding or flash butt welding. Due to the quick welding and deburring sequence effected in only two operations, the welding clamp jaws (3, 4, 5, 6) and the insert jaws (7) are only slightly loaded and have very low wear. <IMAGE>
