The products are used as herbicides, nematocides and plant growth regulants. 3-(p-Chlorophenyl)-5-mercapto-1,2,4-oxadiazole is prepared by heating p-chlorobenzamidoxime, CS 2 , Et 3 N and pyridine for 3 days and 5- mercapto-3-phenyl-1,2,4,-thiadiazole by heating benzamidoxime, CS 2 , sodium methoxide and ethanol.
