The after burner for an IC engine has an exhaust duct emanating from the engine and surrounded by a reverse flow duct. Afterburning is initiated at a chamber defined by the junction of the two ducts. Fresh combustion air is added to the engine exhaust gases at the upstream end of the exhaust duct. To reduce the size of the chamber and improve afterburning further, combustion air is added downstream of the afterburning chamber through holes in the outer wall of the reverse flow duct. Exhaust gas is added to latter air from holes in the wall of the exhaust duct.
|
